Africanized Honey Bee


At the bottom of this page we have several useful items that you can down load to help educate yourself and others about the Africanized Honey Bee.

 

In the summer of 2005 the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced that the Africanized Honey Bee was firmly established in Florida. Soon after the Alabama Department of Agriculture reported that the Africanized Honey Bees were found in the South-Eastern part of their state.

 

As of April 2008 there are no Africanized Honey Bees in Georgia.

 

The Africanized Honey Bee first entered Texas in 1990, they are now found throughout much of the south.

Even though there are no AHBs in Georgia they are expected to arrive in the southern part of the state within the next two or three years. The Georgia Beekeepers Association, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and the University of Georgia have assembled the information at the bottom of this page so you can learn more about the AHB. There is an Africanized Honey Bee Advisory Committee that tours the state, providing information to the general public, beekeepers and members of the public safety community. In order to request a visit to your community please contact.
